PDI displayed their new booth this year at NACS.

Trade conferences are a prime opportunity to make a big impact. And that’s exactly what PDI sought to do at the 2017 NACS Show, held at McCormick Place in Chicago Oct. 17-20.

As the premier event for the convenience industry, there’s no better place to connect with partners, stakeholders and customers. When you’ve had a year full of growth, innovation and reinvention like PDI has, there’s similarly no grander stage than NACS to tout new services and solutions, as well as connect with the people on the ground who make this industry turn. NACS is one of our favorite shows and we’d love to tell you more about PDI’s amazing experience this year: from our new brand to our partners, and even our favorite new snacks!

The brand

PDI started in 1983 with accounting software. Fast forward 34 years and retail remains a cornerstone of our portfolio, but now so too are wholesale and logistics. Through the decades, PDI has grown as a business,  and our corporate identity has evolved along with the company. After a year of multiple acquisitions that have expanded our global footprint and breadth of services, PDI introduced a new logo and brand identity that embodies our history, solutions and vision of the future. We were ready to show it off at NACS 2017.

The booth

Business in an age of global connectivity and technology is a running theme throughout our new branding, and it was certainly reflected in our presence at NACS 2017. Our high-tech, digitally enabled booth featured 12 demo stations for our reps and interested parties to interact with, as well as a center tower with a giant flat screen that played our PDI Brand Journey video. Designed to engage, attract and educate passersby, aisle-facing digital panels were set up to highlight our customers’ stories and factoids about our solutions and PDI.

Our end-to-end portfolio

Of course, it wasn’t all snazzy lights and fancy trappings. PDI’s new booth and brand also spotlighted our recent innovation and growth as a company into a provider of end-to-end solutions that can benefit businesses in multiple industries. In the convenience retail industry, the recent acquisition of DataMax has enabled us to not only expand downmarket to smaller chains and single locations, but also across the world. With the acquisitions of Intellifuel, FireStream and Lomosoft, the logistics and wholesale industries have become a significant priority areas for us, and with refined positions in both, our customers have all the tools they need to transform operations, increase productivity and maximize profits when working with PDI.

Our experience

There’s no better opportunity than NACS 2017 to meet with partners, customers and industry influencers, and we took full advantage of that fact. Traveling the floor, we talked to attending companies and PDI partners from all walks of business like GasBuddy, Datalogic, Fintech and Verifone.

But it wouldn’t really be NACS without a trip around all the goodies. Food is the present and future for C-stores, and that notion was certainly not lost at the 2017 show. Not only did we get to try our favorites like Krispy Krunchy Chicken, but also a decadent Reese’s peanut butter cup with Reese’s Pieces inside.

All in all, it was a tremendous experience and one PDI will continue to look back on – until next year!
